Question 1

What's the difference between casing and tubing?

Accepted Answer

Casing is cemented in place and provides structural integrity to the wellbore, preventing collapse and isolating formations. Tubing is installed inside the casing and is the conduit through which hydrocarbons are produced or fluids are injected. Tubing can be removed and replaced; casing is permanent.

Question 2

How do I select the right OCTG grade for my well?

Accepted Answer

Grade selection depends on several factors: well depth, formation pressures, presence of corrosive gases (H2S, CO2), temperature, and expected well life. Our technical specialists can help you select the optimal grade based on your specific well conditions.

Question 3

What are premium connections and when should I use them?

Accepted Answer

Premium connections are proprietary, high-performance threaded connections that offer superior sealing, higher torque capacity and better fatigue resistance compared to standard API connections. They are recommended for horizontal and extended-reach wells, high-pressure applications, sour service environments, thermal cycling operations, and wells with strict sealing requirements.

Question 4

Do you supply OCTG for sour service applications?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we supply specialized sour service grades including L80-9Cr, L80-13Cr and mill-proprietary grades specifically engineered for H2S environments. These materials meet NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 requirements for sulfide stress cracking resistance.

Question 5

What is ERCB Directive 10 compliance?

Accepted Answer

The Energy Resources Conservation Board (now Alberta Energy Regulator) Directive 10 sets minimum casing design requirements for wells in Alberta. It ensures adequate protection of groundwater and surface casing integrity. All casing we supply for Alberta operations meets or exceeds these standards.

Question 6

Can you handle urgent or emergency OCTG requirements?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we maintain relationships with mills worldwide and have access to various inventory sources. For urgent requirements, we can expedite sourcing and shipping. Contact our team immediately to discuss your timeline and we'll work to meet your needs.

Question 7

What documentation do you provide with OCTG shipments?

Accepted Answer

We provide complete documentation including mill test reports (MTR) with chemical and mechanical properties, material certifications, dimensional inspection reports, third-party inspection certificates on request, complete customs documentation, and bill of lading and shipping documents.

Question 8

How long does delivery typically take?

Accepted Answer

Delivery timelines vary based on product availability and destination. In-stock items typically take 2 to 4 weeks to Canadian locations. Mill orders take 8 to 16 weeks depending on mill schedules and shipping. Expedited options are available for urgent orders upon request.
